Why Frankincense and Lavender?

Frankincense and Lavender essential oils support each other just as calm is essential for concentration.


Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) – Lavender is known for its ability to slow down the pace – calming the nervous system, releasing tension and instilling a gentle sense of relaxation that spreads throughout the body.

Controlled clinical studies show that inhaling lavender reduces anxiety. The mechanism works through the effect of the active components in lavender on the central nervous system* to create an improvement in mood, reduce heart rate and blood pressure. These effects contribute significantly to the relief of mild symptoms of stress and fatigue, and to promote sleep. In addition, lavender oil increases the levels of serotonin available in the brain** – which contributes to a sense of calm, improved mood, and reduced anxiety.

For those curious about how: Studies show that certain components of frankincense oil – especially α-pinene – act on GABA receptors in the brain, which contributes to reducing nervous arousal and a lasting sense of calm. In addition, frankincense oil inhibits the activity of MAO enzymes – a biochemical process that leads to increased availability of serotonin and dopamine in the brain.
