Why Vanilla and Lavender?
The essential oils Vanilla and Lavender together are a story of tenderness, balance, and healing.
Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) – Lavender is known for its ability to slow down the pace – calm the nervous system, release tension and induce a gentle sense of relaxation that spreads throughout the body.
For those curious about how?
Controlled clinical studies show that inhaling lavender reduces anxiety. The mechanism works through the effect of the active components in lavender on the central nervous system* to create an improvement in mood, reduce heart rate and blood pressure. These effects contribute significantly to the relief of mild symptoms of stress and fatigue, and to promote sleep. In addition, lavender oil increases the levels of serotonin available in the brain** – which contributes to a sense of calm, improved mood, and reduced anxiety.
For further information: *The lavender substances linalool and linalyl acetate act as partial blockers of NMDA receptors responsible for regulating the transmission of nerve signals, especially in states of arousal and response to stress. This blockage reduces nervous arousal, thereby reducing feelings of stress, anxiety, and nervousness.**Lavender inhibits the activity of SERT (Serotonin Transporter), which is responsible for the reuptake of serotonin in the brain synapses, thereby increasing the availability of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. Its effect is of course less powerful than anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications with a similar mechanism.
Vanilla essential oil (Vanilla planifolia) - adds a sense of warmth and comfort. Its sweet aroma contributes to emotional relaxation, reduces feelings of burden, and balances internal feelings. Vanilla is also linked to a positive effect on mood and a sense of security and calm.
For those curious about how?
Vanilla has been found to be calming in aromatherapy: inhaling vanilla lowers heart rate and blood pressure, promotes inner calm, supports sleep quality, and has even been linked to improving mood and reducing stress.
For further insight: The smell of vanilla (vanillin molecule) directly affects the autonomic (parasympathetic) nervous system and activates it. In addition, it has been found that the smell of vanilla has an effect on brain waves similar to meditation. In addition, due to childhood memories associated with this smell, the limbic system is activated, and there is activation of the dopamine system associated with a sense of reward and relaxation.
Their combination creates subtle magic.
